GM/Chevrolet 7.4 454 Vortec - Production Years 1996-2000

Description

In 1996, Chevy/GM began producing the L29 Vortec engine. These were based on the GM/Chevy big block 454, but included hydraulic roller cams and other more advanced technology.

The engine’s multi-port fuel injection gives this engine slightly more power and better fuel economy.

During this time, Chevy/GM also manufactured the L21 for commercial vehicles. This engine included forged pistons and crankshaft. The L21 also included a coil near plug ignition.
