Ford 4.7 289 - Production Years 1963-1964

Description

The Ford 289, known as the Challenger V8, was introduced in 1963. It was modeled on the Ford 260, which entered production the year prior.

The bore was expanded again to 4.00in, giving this engine more power than the 260.

In 1963, it replaced the 260 as the standard motor in Ford sedans.

There were a few versions of this engine:

The D-Code, an intermediate performance engine with a 4-barrell carburetor. This was an option on the 1965 Ford Mustang.

The Cyclone, introduced in the 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone
